Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry will stop accepting cash from customers for its services starting tomorrow (April 1), said a press statement released on Monday.

However, Dubai Chamber said customers can continue paying for the Chamber services through online (e-services), advance for services, bank guarantee, cheque, bank transfer and credit cards.

Dubai Chamber also introduced an exclusive prepaid card in association with Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) to make payments easier.

Customers can apply for a free Visa prepaid card from the CBD office next to the Membership and Documentation Services Department on the ground floor of the Chamber’s headquarters.

The CBD Visa card can be obtained through a simple application process by presenting an Emirates ID and a trade licence or Dubai Chamber membership certificate copies to the teller along with the loading amount of up to Dh5,000 to receive the activated card and pin on the spot. The card is fully secured with a chip and pin technology and the customers get access to a 24-hour balance enquiry service through a toll-free number.

The card is for free as is the first loading but the subsequent reloading will come with Dh3 recharge fees per card per reload.

Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Director, Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, informed that in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which seeks to keep pace with the global competitive environment by offering smart and innovative services to clients, Dubai Chamber will not be accepting cash so as to offer a quick and effortless service to the customers.

He further stressed that Dubai Chamber caters to over 153,000 members from the emirate’s multicultural business community and this new pre-paid card payment system will allow the Chamber to offer a seamless and efficient service to its stakeholders.

Essa Ali Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, added that this new payment system will help Dubai Chamber, which has won the Best Result in Customer Satisfaction (Medium-sized Organisation) category for the fourth year in a row at the  Dubai Government Excellence Program in 2013, to provide quality world-class services to its customers while considerably reducing the serving time required per transaction.

Frans Jan Burkens, Head of Consumer Banking of CBD, said: “In line with the bank’s commitment to the UAE government’s e-initiatives, aimed at promoting the use of electronic services in all financial transactions, Commercial Bank of Dubai is delighted to have a unique relationship with the Dubai Chamber, giving the opportunity to its members to enjoy the co-branded pre-paid card’s superior benefits.”

Dubai Chamber recently launched new smartphone application services on the iOS and Android platforms which offer quick and easy-to-use e-services to its local and global stakeholders as well as its International Business Network (IBN) membership for global businesses and Tejar Dubai for supporting and honing the talent of budding entrepreneurs in the emirate.
