Dubai Municipality has decided to allocate showroom properties for the new truck market through "lot system" soon after the Eid Al Adha holidays, and has notified 30 merchants who had paid the advance fee of the plan.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said, "Merchants of the fruit and vegetable market will also be invited to explain the steps taken by Dubai Municipality in establishing warehouses for frozen foods for vegetable and fruit traders, which is considered the first project in the multi-storey building.

"The truck market project is part of DM’s efforts to establish a number of sophisticated markets in the Emirate of Dubai with the aim of providing the best shopping experiences in the region," he added.

"The Dh72.2mn project is expected to be officially inaugurated by the end of 2014, complying with 100 per cent green building rules and specialised in businesses related to trucks and spare parts. It will contribute to stimulating the national economy and will save time and effort for both customers and dealers," according to Mr. Lootah.

The market, located in Al Ruwayyah on 421,000 square metres, will include 88 showrooms for trucks, 60 showrooms for spare parts and an advanced service facility that will cater for the needs of businesses, showrooms and customers.

"It provides traders with a single location that offers comprehensive services, such as vehicle testing, financing services, insurance and auctions," he added.

He went on to say that the market will also regulate the trade of trucks and spare parts of second-hand heavy vehicles through the implementation of regulations, supervision of the specialised authorities of showrooms, and facilitating the arrival of traders from abroad to encourage the export of trucks and heavy equipment.

The Dubai Truck Market will also help with improving the aesthetics of the city by curbing the sale of trucks and spare parts on the roadside.
