The total value of revenue collected electronically through the eDirham system has crossed the Dh20 billion mark even as the Ministry of Finance launched the new mobile application for easy online and point of sale transactions.

The mobile application was launched during the ongoing Gitex Technology Week and allows registered users to inquire and pay for governmental services; generate eD-Wallet Token IDs (Tokenization); get eDirham card mini- statements and check card balances; add credit, prepaid and direct debit bank cards; access the audit trail, reports, feedback and data; alongside other support features like getting information on eDirham outlet locations and downloading content from the eDirham website.

Most local and federal entities except for a few instructions like the DNRD have made it mandatory for the use of e-Dirham as the only mode of payment.

Earlier this month the Ministry of Finance signed an agreement with Ajman’s Department of Finance to implement the eDirham system for the payment of government service fees.

“The smart eDirham mobile applications will be considered the primary consolidated payment service of all federal government service fees in the near future, where the users can request and review any of the government services that concern them, complete the service application and make the required payment. The payment process is now available through a variety of means including eD-Wallet,” said Saeed Rashid Al Yateem, Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Budget Sector, Ministry of Finance (MoF).

The ministry which operates the eDirham system as the primary mode for the collection of all federal fees, launched the second generation of the eDirham system in partnership with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) in 2011.

The popularity of the system has been growing over the years and during the first nine months of 2015 alone the total number of successful electronic transactions through the eDirham system rose by about eight per cent to 27.3 million compared to around 25.1 million services in the same period last year.

As Al Yateem pointed out that the average execution time for Web transactions through eDirham network is now only 1.13 seconds, whereas the average execution time for the transactions through eDirham POS devices is only 1.08 seconds.
