Flydubai’s inaugural flight to Podgorica (TGD) landed on Wednesday, becoming the only UAE-based airline to offer air links to Montenegro’s capital.

The twice-weekly service includes a regional connection to Sarajevo (SJJ), a popular destination on the flydubai network.

Upon arrival, the aircraft was greeted with a water cannon salute and on board the flight was a delegation led by Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of flydubai; Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President, Commercial (UAE, EU, ME, CIS) of flydubai; Darko Uskokovic, Ambassador of Montenegro to the UAE, and Dusanka Jeknic, the Minister Counsellor from the Embassy of Montenegro in Abu Dhabi.

The delegation was met by Abdul Salam Hareb Al Rumaithi, UAE Ambassador to Montenegro, Dr. Hana Alkaabi, the Third Secretary of the UAE Embassy in Montenegro, and Danilo Orlandic, CEO of Montenegro Airports.

Podgorica becomes the eighth destination to join the airline’s network in Central and Eastern Europe, which includes Belgrade, Bratislava, Bucharest, Prague, Skopje, Sarajevo and Sofia. flydubai, earlier this year, started flights to the coastal town of Tivat, one of three seasonal routes it operated for the first time this summer.

"We are delighted to have launched flights to Podgorica. Following our popular flights to Tivat this summer we look forward to the opportunities that this route will bring for both Montenegro and the UAE. We would like to thank the government of Montenegro for their support in the launch of this route," Al Ghaith said.

With flights to more than 95 destinations in 44 countries, flydubai offers passengers from Montenegro a greater opportunity to connect onwards on the flydubai network through Dubai’s efficient aviation hub.

"With the launch of this new route, we are not only providing a direct flight to Podgorica from Dubai, but creating a regular service between Podgorica and Sarajevo. We look forward to the new opportunities that these flights will provide creating new flows of trade and tourism," Efendi said.
