How to make free Facebook video calls

With Facebook Messenger's video calling feature finally arriving in the UAE, several readers have requested on a primer on how to make Facebook Messenger video calls. So, here goes.

To use the video calling service on Facebook, follow these steps:

#1 Launch the Messenger app on your smartphone.

#2 Click on the friend you want to make the video call to.

#3 Click on the video icon at the top right corner of the screen. Note that you'll only be able to do so for friends that are online on the Messenger app.

Remember that while calls are free, you will be charged for data when you aren't on a Wi-Fi network.

Users can also turn a voice call into video call by tapping on the video button on the call screen during an ongoing call.

Once a video call is initiates, the camera starts in selfie mode and you will be able to switch to the rear camera.

During the Messenger video call, a small window on your screen will show what your camera is pointing at.

You may drag this window around to wherever you’d like to place it on your screen.

The feature also gives the option of cutting the video feed from one end and playing just the audio of the conversation while the other end can stay in video mode.
