LG’s bendable G Flex to soon debut in Europe; what about Dubai?

LG Electronics has announced that it will soon roll out its first truly bendable smartphone, the LG Flex, across Europe although news is yet to come out of a possible Middle East launch.

The South Korean company has announced that it will start selling the 6-inch smartphone with OLED display in 20 countries across Europe starting February.

To date, the LG G Flex has only been available in Asia (Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore) and it was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this month that it will launch in the United States sometime this quarter.

Last month a senior company official in the region had told Emirates 24|7 that it would be launched in the UAE sometime in 2014 without specifying any particular date for the UAE launch.

“It is not a mass market product but it will be in the UAE soon,” DY Kim, President of LG Electronics in the Gulf, had said.

The G Flex utilises the world’s first curved battery and is the first phone to feature a self-healing coating on the back cover, making it immune to minor scratches and nicks. The unique device also features user-centric UX features such as QTheatre, Dual Window and Swing Lock screen designed specifically for the curved screen.

Although the phone is yet to officially launch here, those of you who really want to own one here in the UAE can buy it from online retail store Jadopado or souq.com. Both have priced the 32GB model at Dh2,499.

Joseph Ibrahim was one of the buyers who purchased it way back in November.

“I used it for a month and sold it off as it was too big to hold. It’s a good phone – faster than the Samsung Galaxy S4 or the iPhone 5s I am currently using. But it was simply too big for me,” said Ibrahim.

“Another problem I faced was the availability of accessories be it a pouch or a screen protector. They are too difficult to find in the retail market here,” he added.
