Recruitment activity in the UAE has witnessed an improvement in the first half of 2011 as compared to the same period over last year, according to leading experts in the industry.

According to Peter Greaves, Director, Head of Financial Markets at McArthur Murray, Dubai, “15 per cent new jobs,” were created in the first half of this year.

Cliff Single, Commercial Manager at BAC Middle East is more cautious in his estimates and believes the growth is limited to a single digit figure. “There was a slight increase (5 per cent) in the number of jobs created in H1 this year compared to 2010,” he told Emirates 24|7.

Overall, the regional job market has shown considerable improvement and according to experts the rise has been fairly impressive. “Fifty six per cent more vacancies [were] registered with Huxley Associates in H1 2011 compared to H1 in 2010.

This includes UAE, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait and Bahrain,” said Hasnain Qazi, Middle East Business Manager at Huxley Associates.

On the other hand, there are some experts who believe that deducing a figure is difficult. “This is not easy to identify. This is possibly something that the statistics authority can say. For us, new positions may also mean rotation of the executives or developments in other Middle East countries,” said Konstantina Sakellariou, Partner, Marketing & Operations Director at Stanton Chase.

A recent survey by Bayt.com last month shows that “current hiring expectancy sees the status quo being maintained with 28 per cent of respondents claiming to definitely hire in the next three months similar to the previous wave. Another 26 per cent are uncertain about their plans sand say they would probably hire” it said. These findings are in comparison of the previous survey released by the same job portal.
