New Apple iPhone, iPad Pro launch at March 21 event

Two years after Apple finally decided to do away with the 4-inch device, we could see the resurgence of the iPhone with the original 4-inch display.

Apple has finally confirmed that it plans to hold an event on March 21, when it is widely expected to launch the iPhone SE. The event could also see Apple announcing a new 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

There have been enough rumours and leaks about the specs of the new iPhone, starting with its 4-inch display and specs as powerful as that of the iPhone 6s.

The device will be powered by A9 processor, sport either an 8MP or a 12MP rear camera and a 16GB and 64GB internal storage and come with a 1642mAh battery.

In terms of design, the device will sport a iPhone 5S look but with slightly curved edges and come with three colour options – Space Grey, Silver, and Gold.

Several reports are pointing out that the main differentiators between the iPhone 6S and the iPhone Se will not just be the size but the absence of 3D Touch.

It will be interesting to see how much Apple plans to price its new device that would be clearly aimed at the budget conscious iPhone fans, and also to those who have still sticking on to the older versions such as the iPhone 4, 4S 5 and 5S.

According to data released by Mixpanel, about 32 per cent of those actively using iPhones still have a 4-inch screen. Majority of those – about 17.83 per cent still hold on to the iPhone 5S, with about 6.9 per cent owning iPhone 5 devices and 5.2 per cent iPhone 5C models.

It is widely expected that Apple could price the device anywhere between $400 (Dh1,468) to $500 (Dh1,835). With the iPhone 6 and 6S available in the market for Dh1,900 and Dh2,200, it would be ideal for Apple to price the new 4-inch iPhone at around Dh1,500. Anything more and it could well end up like the iPhone 5C.
