Projects worth Dh544m in Abu Dhabi approved

The Executive Committee of the Executive Council headed by Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Chairman of Executive Office, approved during its meeting, a number of projects for roads, infrastructure, services and education facilities worth Dh544 million.

The committee approved referrals of contracts for roads and infrastructure projects at several plots in Mohamed bin Zayed City, worth over Dh108 million.

The project services 119 units, 96 of which are residential, while 23 are plots dedicated for public facilities. It includes the construction of internal roads over 7.7km, water networks, a wastewater system, electricity and communication lines, irrigation systems, rain water drainage systems, and internal road lighting.

The committee also approved the referral of contract for internal roads and infrastructure projects in Al Nahda military Residential zone, Bani Yas and Al Shawamekh, worth over Dh102m.

The project includes establishing the infrastructure for 179 residential units, a 7.66km long internal road, 13.5km long pavement project, 1,422 car parking spaces, essential infrastructure work linked to existing networks, and the transfer and protection of existing service lines in these areas.

Infrastructure

The committee also approved the contract referral for the project to complete the development of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road from the Al Falah intersection to Qasr Al Bahr intersection, worth Dh54.577m.

This project aims at constructing and amending a 3.5km road, and building an inclined bridge and the necessary infrastructure. It also seeks to make amendments to the traffic and control systems for the Sheikh Zayed tunnel to align them with the executed changes and the inclined bridge, which will improve traffic in the surrounding area.

During its meeting, the committee agreed to award a tender worth Dh36m for the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of guiding signs for an address system project in the Western Region, as part of the Unified Geonames and addressing system in Abu Dhabi.

The Geonames and addressing system aims at facilitating access to any location in the emirate by using modern techniques such as the Quick Response Code, which can be scanned using a smartphone and is adopted for street names or signs fixed at the entrances of buildings.

Abu Dhabi Plan

These projects form part of the strategic plans of government entities aligned with the programmes and objectives of the "Abu Dhabi Plan", which seeks to develop and advance urban areas that meet the needs of their communities and provide residents and visitors with a high quality of life.

The committee approved a budget of Dh135.5m of the first phase of the project to develop the Ghuwaifat border crossing. The project includes the restoration of roads dedicated to light vehicles and buses, and waiting spaces for trucks heading in and out of the country according to the requirements of their journey. It seeks to facilitate entry and exit procedures for travellers and speed up the movement of goods, guarantee a civil approach that corresponds with the high standing the UAE has reached, and support trade with GCC countries.

The Ghuwaifat crossing is located at the border with Saudi and the western border of Abu Dhabi. It is 360km away from the city of Abu Dhabi and is considered to be the main border crossing linking the UAE with the GCC. It witnesses continuous activity throughout the year.

Educational facilities

The committee approved the design and construction of a primary school and kindergarten on Delma Island, worth Dh106.7m. The project extends over 9,802 m2 and the school will provide seats for 758 students with an environment that meets the requirements needed to develop the educational process by providing school facilities that support modern teaching methods.

The committee confirmed that the Government of Abu Dhabi is committed to providing education facilities that are aligned with the advanced educational level reached in the emirate and equal in all areas of the emirate. These efforts are made according to the guidance of the wise leadership, which continuously calls for the provision of a motivational environment for students to reach their potential and for an investment in future generations considered as the key for continued development and progress in various sectors.

Among other decisions, the committee approved a strategic plan to increase the efficiency of the Al Wathba Punitive and Correctional complex, with the aim of improving services provided to inmates, such as study rooms, workshops, art rooms, entertainment facilities and libraries. The project seeks to restore and expand these facilities by building new ones and increasing the activities available to inmates, and by demolishing and rebuilding administrative buildings.

This strategy confirms the UAE’s commitment to rehabilitation and correction according to international practices aimed at rehabilitating and training inmates to help them re-integrate into society.

The committee further approved improvements to small transport buses dedicated to transporting passengers from the factories and instructed the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ to license them.

This measure seeks to reduce the rate of traffic accidents involving small transport buses, and the rate of resultant casualties and fatalities. It also aims to reduce the cost of these accidents and the damage they have on the infrastructure, co-ordinating efforts with concerned entities to improve traffic safety and reduce the severity of accidents involving small transport buses, ultimately contributing to the improvement of road safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The committee discussed and decided on several subjects and notes referred to it by government entities in Abu Dhabi as relevant to the plans, projects and service developments listed on the committee’s agenda.
