Samsung smart-watch's own browser

For all those who thought browsing on a smartwatch would be like playing golf in your kitchen, there is some hope.

Samsung’s Gear S, which runs on its homemade Tizen OS, will now be able to allow its users to download Opera’s new browser specifically designed for the smartwatch. It not only compresses the size of the website by less than 10 per cent, enabling faster loading time but also creates finger-friendly features, resulting in easy access of shortcuts through its 3.5-inch screen.

It could also be termed as an attempt to position a smartwatch as a true alternate to a smartphone – at least in a limited way

The specially designed browser will come with a ‘smart page’ that gives users all their social updates and the latest news on one screen.

Opera Mini’s speed dial features website shortcuts as large buttons making it easier for the smartphone user to navigate through the website.

It also comes with private browsing, that removes any trace of the web pages visited on the wrist-gazer’s device.

As Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, said in his statement, with its entry into smartwatches, Opera enters a long list of devices where its browsers can be found such as the internet keyboard, the dual-screen handheld game console and the VOIP phones.

Last year the Norwegian firm had released Opera Coast - an innovative smart browser for the iPad and later the Opera Mini for the iPhone and iPad - providing an app-like user experience to websites.
