Alcatel has launched its Onetouch Hero 2 smartphone and plans to introduce it in the Middle East market by February, ahead of the Samsung and HTC launch.

Although it is no match to the flagship devices that are about to be launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in March, the French company is hoping that its 6-inch device can take on the segment that the Samsung Note and the Huawei Ascend Mate targets.

The device was originally announced in September and features an octa-core processor, a full 1080p HD display, a 13MP camera, 2GB of RAM, a 3100 mAh battery. It comes with a stylus also.

Among other features are handwriting recognition, camera live filters, a music editor allowing a user to mix tracks and add sound effects through a  companion flip cover: MagicFlip DJ.

“The HERO 2 has been built around the user experience, and is truly the smartphone people will love using,” said Zied Merichko, Head of Middle East.

The device will be priced at Dh1,699.
