Apple's iPhone 6s for under Dh3,000 in UAE: Where to buy this Friday

New iPhones on sale in 12 countries on Friday; no news on official UAE launch

Apple has announced that its new iPhones – the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus – will be available at 8am local time on Friday, September 25, at Apple’s retail stores in 12 countries.

“Stores will have the new iPhones available for walk-in customers who are encouraged to arrive early,” the Cupertino-based tech giant said in a media statement.

Apple said that consumers can order both models starting Friday through a variety of avenues – from Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores, through select carriers and Apple Authorised Resellers.

“Customer response to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been incredibly positive, we can't wait to get our most advanced iPhones ever into customers’ hands starting this Friday,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice-president of Worldwide Marketing, said in the statement.

Both models will be available in the UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the US.

And while there is no news yet of when Apple might begin officially retailing the devices here in the UAE, several online retailers have already begun accepting pre-orders for the new iPhones, with delivery dates set for within a few of days of their availability in the first wave of 12 countries.

Online retailer Souq.com has listed the iPhone 6s for Dh2,999, with delivery starting September 30, 2015. This price is about Dh275 more than the official suggested retail price in Singapore (SGD1,048, or Dh2,722.94), from where many UAE online retailers are known to have sourced previous iterations of new iPhones and iPads, before the devices officially reach the country.

The retailers, however, will have a better margin if they sourced the iPhone 6s from Hong Kong (HKD5,588, or Dh2,648.15) or indeed the US ($649, or Dh2,384)

Another online retailer offering the iPhone 6s at Dh2,999 is CrazyDeals.ae, which had earlier marked the device for sale at Dh3,199 but says it will refund the difference to those who pre-ordered at that price.

“We are giving cashback to all customers who reserved the iPhone 6s with CrazyDeals at Dh3,199. We are matching the price of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to the best in market; so if a customer sees any deal in the market which is better priced then ours, we ensure that we match the price,” a spokesperson told Emirates 24|7.

The iPhone 6s Plus is available for pre-order in the UAE starting at Dh3,399 (Souq.com), with shipping starting September 30, 2015.

Apple unveiled both the new devices earlier this month at an event in the US.

“iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start, on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history,” Schiller said in the latest statement.

Apple has announced the fastest iOS adoption ever, claiming that more than 50 per cent of devices already use iOS 9.2.
