DMCC mulls technologies for lakes

65,000 people live and work in Jumeirah Lakes Towers

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority (‘DMCC’), the Government Authority dedicated to establishing Dubai as the global gateway for commodity trade and licensing authority for the DMCC Free Zone, is currently evaluating technologies in line with local and international benchmarks to enhance the quality and purity of the water across its lakes.

Matt Lomax, Property Director, DMCC, said:

“At DMCC we continuously look at ways of enhancing the environment for the 65,000 people currently working and living in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

“One such initiative is to ensure that the water quality of the lakes are managed in the most efficient, environmentally friendly and sustainable way.”

While there are a limited number of new technologies available, which allow for purification of water across large scale projects such as Jumeirah Lakes Towers, DMCC is evaluating a range of best practice methods including fresh water lake management systems.

Dubai Municipality recently also announced good results of a ‘magnetic techniques’ system used to clean Zabeel Park Lake, a method also being reviewed for its potential application in Jumeirah Lakes Towers.

DMCC Free Zone, the fastest growing and soon to be the largest in the UAE, continues to expand its mixed-use Free Zone and freehold community. Earlier this year and in response to community requests DMCC announced the transformation of one of its lakes into a 55,000 square metre community park is also due to be completed by the end of this year.

With 65 mixed-use commercial and residential towers and over 200 retail outlets in operation, there are currently over 65,000 people working and living within Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The Government Authority is also firmly set to meet its commitment made in early 2011 to be home to over 7,200 companies by the end of 2013.
