Google Maps upgrade: Coffee, traffic and more

Now search for the best coffee near you from your desktop via Google Maps.

If you are wondering about what route to take to office this evening, log on to the maps before you leave and you will be able to get a glimpse of what roads are congested and what alternate routes you could take.

Nine months after Google announced its new revamped Map, which many of us have been accessing over our Android smartphones, Google has started rolling out the new service on to the desktops.

Google has now announced that the new Google Maps will make its way onto desktops around the world during the coming weeks.

If you are in the UAE, you can already log onto maps.google.com and experience the new upgraded service.

“It’s now even easier to plan your next trip, check ‘live’ traffic conditions, discover what’s happening around town, and learn about a new area.

“Simply search for “coffee” in your neighborhood, and you’ll be able to see results and snippets right on the map. When you click on a cafe, the map will suggest related results that you may not have known about,” Google said in its latest blog post announcing the roll out.

The new desktop version also showcases a place by bringing together various images of the venue, especially when it is a prominent landmark. The new “carousel” at the bottom of the map makes all this imagery easy to access.

Users can also shift between a normal view to a street view at places where it is enabled with ease.
