Is Apple's new iPhone 6C ready for launch?

Apple it is said is working on launching a new 4 inch iPhone that is as powerful as its new iPhone 6 Plus. According to new rumours the production work on the new devices could have already kick-started at various facilities of Foxconn.

In fact, rumours of a new 4 inch iPhone started emerging ahead of the iPhone 6S launch in September and it was initially expected that Apple could announce the device along with its two flagship devices.

The 6C rumours have once again gained ground with fresh leaks suggesting that Apple is already in advanced stages of production.

The new iPhone which could either go by the name iPhone 6C or iPhone mini brings back the 4 inch display and is expected to power it up with specs similar to that of an iPhone 6S. Would that mean the new iPhone 6C will come equipped with features such as 3D touch, force sensitive touch screen and a second generation Touch ID?

The previous version of the 4 inch device by Apple - the iPhone 5C had less powerful specs compared to the iPhone 5S and came without a Touch ID.

A recent report by a Japanese tech blog Macotakara claims, quoting reliable sources, that Apple has already started production of a new chip will use a more powerful A8 processor that is currently used in the iPhone 6S.

The report claims that the new chip codenamed  "iPhone 5s Mark II" will be based on the iPhone 5S frame work but with an improvised A8 chip, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, ƒ / 2.2 aperture and FaceTime HD camera. The report also states that the product is ready to be shipped anytime indicating that Apple could make the announcement anytime during the coming months.

While some reports have pointed to an immediate announcement ahead of Christmas holidays, several others have pointed to a more conservative approach suggesting that Apple could time it sometime during the first or second quarter of 2016.

It should be noted that Apple had announced the iPhone 5C the last such device, before it discontinued the mini model, along with the iPhone 5S in September. Both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6S announcements in 2014 and 2015 did not come with an accompanying mini model.

It would be interesting to find out how Apple prices the new mini devices. The iPhone 5C was priced at $549 just $100 less than the iPhone 5S. The company was criticized for pricing the iPhone 5C too high, thereby creating no major difference between its flagship model. Several analysts have warned that the 4 inch device should cater to a more budget conscious market and not be priced above $300 for a basic version.
