April 10 will go down among the most eagerly awaited days this year for gadget lovers, both here in the UAE as well as those across the world.

For, starting tomorrow, smartphones and wearable computing fans will be spoilt for choice.

Come Friday, and among the hottest items on UAE store shelves will be the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones, in addition to the hot-off-the-press Red BlackBerry Passport.

To top it, Apple’s first wearable, Apple Watch, will be available for pre-orders in 10 countries. Sadly, the UAE isn’t among those, but when has that stopped gadget lovers UAE residents from ordering one, eh?

In the Android domain, the HTC One M9 has had a sort of free pass for the past couple of weeks (you may not have noticed it, but the new M9 has been on UAE store shelves for almost two weeks now).

The Taiwanese manufacturer formally launched the new HTC One M9+ at a press event yesterday in Beijing, China. The handset is expoected to launch in India next week, with the company sending out media invites to an event in New Delhi scheduled on April 14, 2015. It probably won't take long after that to hit the UAE's shores.

But the One M9 is already here - and it will now get company (actually, stiff competition) from the new Samsung spearheads.

Samsung has announced midnight availability of its new phones tonight, as the firm opens two of its brand stores in Dubai (in Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall) for one night for the sale of Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

Samsung added it will also reward the first customers with a limited stock of gift vouchers, without specifying how many customers will receive the voucher.

Additionally, names of all consumers who buy the Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge (at any time if the day) will be in the hat to win a bundle of Galaxy S6 accessories. “All they have to do is take a picture against the store’s photo wall and post it with the hashtag #MyS6 on social media for a chance to win,” Samsung Gulf said in a statement.

Readers might recall that Samsung launched a similar scheme in 2013, during the launch of the Galaxy S4, when it announced a Dh444 in-store voucher for the first 200 customers of the smartphone at its Dubai Mall store.

Even as the store was set to open at 10am, customers started queuing up as early as 6.30am to snap the latest device. When Emirates 24|7 visited the store at around 10.30am, we witnessed heated arguments between impatient fans and the store management that was clearly trying its best to organise the customers and dole out the Galaxy S4 as soon as they possibly could.

Samsung should have, hopefully, taken lessons from that commotion and we hope things go more smoothly this time around.

The Galaxy S6 is available for Dh2,599 (32GB) and Dh2,899 (64GB) while the Galaxy S6 Duos retails at Dh2,699 (32GB) and Dh2,999 (64GB). The Galaxy S6 Edge is available for Dh3,099 (32GB), Dh3,399 (64GB) and Dh3,799 (128GB).

The Limited Edition Red BlackBerry Passport is available for Dh2,399 at the BlackBerry Store in the Dubai Mall, axiom retail stores and other retail outlets.

The Apple Watch will be available for pre-orders beginning $349 (Sport) and goes all the way up to $17,000 (Edition).

Meanwhile, telecom operator Etisalat said in a media statement that its customers will be the first to get the latest 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge in the UAE. The sale of the new devices will begin at 6pm tonight, April 9, 2015. the telco said its customers will enjoy exclusivity on all the colors – white, black and gold with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
