LG has announced that it plans to unveil a new mini version of its popular G2 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
But what stands out in the new ‘mini’ is its size.
The G2 mini is 4.7 inches and will go onto to be the biggest ‘mini’ in the smartphone market, overtaking the Samsung S4 mini, the HTC One mini and even the iPhone 5S.
Both the Samsung S4 mini and the HTC One mini measure 4.3 inches each while the iPhone 5C has a 4 inch display.
However, the new phone also comes with the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat and the Premium UX features of the G2.
Apart from these the G2 mini is indeed a shrink down of its high end big brother.
The phone has a screen resolution of 960x540 pixels offering a density of 234 pixels per inch.
Now compare this with the HTC One mini that has a smaller screen but a much higher 720x1280 pixels (341ppi) and the S4 mini 540x960 (256 ppi). The iPhone 5C on the other hand has a screen resolution of 640x1136 (321ppi).
The other specs of G2 Mini include a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Quad-Core or a 1.7GHz Nvidia Quad Core Tegra 4i processor providing either LTE or 3G connectivity, 1GB RAM, 8Mp or a 13 MP rear camera, depending on the version.
The G2 mini will be available in many variations Single or Dual SIM, 3G, 4G or LTE and four different colour options.
The G2 mini has a 2,440mAh removable battery and an 8GB internal storage with an SD card option. The Phone weighs about 121 grams.
According to the Dr Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company the idea behind launching the mini version of the popular LG G2 is aimed at bringing the experience to a wider audience.
"The G2 mini is all about bringing the best user experience of the G2 to a more compact, mid-tier device, giving millions of customers the opportunity to benefit from the LG premium experience….. This device offers the perfect balance of modern design,” he said.
Among the UX features LG says it is proud to introduce to the mini is the Guest Mode, Plug & Pop, Clip Tray and Capture Plus.
The G2 mini will be rolled out across the global market in March. The 3G Dual SIM model will first come to the CIS countries followed soon after by major markets in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia — including Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan — and Europe.
