Sony has just announced that it has sold over 6 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) units across the world in four months.
Some of the statistics read as follows:
more than 13.7 million PS4 software sales in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads;
KILLZONE SHADOW FALL (SCE WWS) is the top selling game with over 2.1 million units worldwide;
50 per cent of PS4 customers have registered for the PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) membership service;
PlayStation app downloaded more than 3.6 million times among others.
Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, says the responses have been phenomenal.
According to Sony the top selling titles includes KILLZONE SHADOW FALL (SCE WWS), KNACK (SCE WWS), Call of Duty: Ghosts (Activision), FIFA14 (Electronic Arts), Battlefield 4 (Electronic Arts), and Assassin’s Creed: IV Black Flag (Ubisoft Entertainment).
Sony also says it would soon expand its present range of games to include new titles such as METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES (Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd.), KINGDOM HEARTS III (SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD), Destiny (Activision), Watch_Dogs (Ubisoft Entertainment), The Witness (Thekla, Inc.), #DRIVECLUB (SCE WWS), inFAMOUS Second Son (SCE WWS) and The Order 1886 (SCE WWS).
Sony was initially apprehensive about how the introduction of online membership and cloud service would take off. The PS Plus membership service provides members access to exclusive game discounts, cloud game saves and “Instant Game Collection,” which allows members to play full versions of popular titles from third party developers and publishers at no extra cost. Users also benefit from online multiplayer and automatic patch downloads and installations.
Now what does this mean for the Xbox One, where sales have been comparatively low? Recently Microsoft announced that it plans to bundle Titanfall with the Xbox One for $499.99. The move is expected to drive up some numbers for Microsoft.
The deal includes Xbox One, Titanfall, and a month of Xbox Live Gold, all for the same price as a standard Xbox One. Click here to pre-order the deal.
