Turner Broadcasting System, which operates TV channels such as CNN and the Cartoon Network, is opening an office in Dubai, The National reported on Sunday.

The paper quoted the Vice-President and General Manager for the MENA region at Turner, saying the company may launch a local production centre.

Alan Musa said the company would open its Dubai office in the fourth quarter of this year at about the same time it started broadcasting its new free-to-air Cartoon Network Arabic channel.

The aim is to boost the Arabic-language content.

The US company, which is part of the Time Warner media conglomerate, is also pursuing plans to syndicate the Emirati animation Freej outside the MENA region.
