UAE launches digital bank account opening for tourists through Tourist Identity initiative

Abu Dhabi: The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE), in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), has launched a new digital service allowing tourists to open bank accounts using the Tourist Identity initiative.

The service enables non-resident visitors to instantly and securely open digital bank accounts upon arrival in the UAE through the Tourist Identity, marking a key milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey and efforts to advance financial inclusion.

The Tourist Identity provides visitors with a trusted digital identity supported by advanced technologies, including biometrics and facial recognition developed by ICP. Through the integration of ICP’s platform with ADCB’s mobile banking application, visitors can open bank accounts within minutes and gain immediate access to essential banking services, including digital debit cards for instant use.

The initiative supports the UAE’s national vision to build a society driven by digital payments. It also promotes wider adoption of digital payment solutions, strengthens consumer protection frameworks and reduces reliance on cash, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leading financial hub regionally and globally.

H.E. Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at the CBUAE, said the initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to developing a secure digital financial ecosystem and enhancing ease of doing business by connecting visitors to national payment platforms such as Jaywan and Aani.

H.E. Major General Suhail Juma Al Khaili, Acting Director General of Citizenship at ICP, said the Virtual Tourist Identity enables secure access to services without traditional documents through advanced biometric and artificial intelligence technologies.

ADCB Group CEO Ala’a Eraiqat said the initiative supports innovation in banking while aligning financial services with the UAE’s growing tourism economy.
