That’s exactly what you can now do if you invest in LG products. The company is showcasing its next generation of smart innovations and technologies that allow users to communicate and control machines using the advanced of Natural Language Processing (NLP).

LG has used the popular messaging application LINE and integrated it with LG’s HomeChat service to enable the process.

For example, by simply texting ‘I’m going on vacation’ in HomeChat will result in the automatic response, ‘Should I convert to vacation mode?’. Say ‘yes’ and it will automatically turn on the power-saving mode. You can also SMS to your robotic vacuum cleaner to sweep the floor or programme it to clean the rooms every day at a set time. You can even monitor and control which part of your house is cleaned.

You can even instruct your washing machine to run a wash cycle just before you return from your holiday. You will even be notified when the wash cycle is completed.

Real time updates can also be obtained from other devices such as the refrigerator. According to LG, the Smart Manager transforms the refrigerator into a complete food management system.

Users can not only check what’s inside without opening the door, the Smart Manager’s Freshness Tracker can input various foods and check their expiration dates. It even recommends and suggests menus based on what’s inside the refrigerator.

Just imagine other members of the family can even connect to your fridge and upload photos to the LCD panel from their smartphones.

According to LG it chose LINE due to its popularity.

“With 310 million users worldwide, LINE is available on all major smartphone platforms: Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia Asha as well as desktops and laptops running Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. With HomeChat, there is no need to learn new commands or add another remote control to the coffee table. Everything homeowners need to communicate with their LG smart appliance is on their smartphone or desktop,” the LG note said.

Currently you can text in English and Korean. LG says it is working on introducing support to more languages.
