Tawazun Holding’s vehicle manufacturer Nimr Automotive held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new integrated facility for production of Nimr vehicles at the Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi.

Work has already started on the state-of-the-art facility, the design of which meets all requirements of lean production methods that allow maximum efficiency in manufacturing, while following international health and safety standards. The facility is expected to be fully operational by October 2015.

Al Hajeri said the new facility was a testament to the success of the UAE-made Nimr vehicles in the UAE and the world.

"The new integrated facility, the first of its kind in the region, will help Nimr Automotive re-establish itself as a well-recognized brand in the international military vehicles industry and render it in better position to serve its growing customer base," he added.

"We are very proud of this achievement which, one year from now, will see Nimr production capacity doubled. This will help cater to the needs of the local market and future market demands," said Al Mazrouei.

Dr. Fahad Harhara said the new facility will have a built up area of 37,000 square meters in addition to a test track and service center.

He pointed out that the fully integrated facility will operate on a complete production cycle of vehicle design, development, prototyping, testing and serial production within one facility.

In addition to modern equipment and machinery, production will involve a combination of semi and full automation.

"The new facility will double current production capacity of 4X4 and 6X6 platforms and will lead to tapping new markets in Mena region, while supporting our production activities in Nimr Algeria," added Dr. Fahad.

The project is being developed by Arabtec Construction.

Present at the groundbreaking ceremony were Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, Chief Executive Officer of Tawazun; Major General Fares Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Board Chairman of Nimr Automotive; Saeed bin Butti Al Qubaisi, Chairman of Centurion Investment; Mohammed Saeed Bin Jabr Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Defense Technology; Dr. Fahad Saif Harhara, Chief Executive Officer of Nimr Automotive; members of the company’s board of directors and shareholders from Tawazun, Centurion and Bin Jabr Group, as well as representatives from the facility developers, Arabtec.
