Dubai Public Prosecution started the trial of an Asian who followed the instructions of a drug dealer in his country, in exchange for money. The man brought in 99 heroin capsules, which he stored in his gut, weighing more than one kilogram, despite the fact that it posed a great risk to his safety.

A witness from Dubai Police reported that he suspected the defendant when upon his arrival at Dubai International Airport. He was asked by the specialists if he possesses any prohibitions as he appeared to have signs of fatigue on his face. Soon a device was used on him that detected the contents of the viscera, and foreign bodies were detected inside his intestine. He was taken to the General Administration of Narcotics Control, and then to Rashid Hospital, where he remained for several days till all the heroin capsules were removed from his gut.

The Ajman Criminal Court, headed by Judge Abdul Samad Mohammed Al Amoudi, and in presence of Judges Ibrahim Mohammed Abdullah Al Kamali and Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Dasouqi, sentenced two men of African nationality to three years jail, along with a 10,000 dirham fine that would be divided equally between them. One man is 34 years of age while the other is 24 years old. They are to be deported from the state for abduction, assault, beating, and stealing money from a woman of the same nationality.

Details of the case came from a report done by the victim to the Al Jurf Police Station in Ajman about the assault. She said that they attempted to kidnap her by opening the doors to the taxi cab she got in. They then beat her, took her bag, and tried to kidnap her.

Further investigations revealed that the event took place on July 13, while the victim was leaving her office in a market in Ajman heading to the taxi stand. She noticed two people following her. When she tried to ride a taxi, the first accused boarded the front and the second accused forced himself on her, in attempts to take her to another emirate. Then, the taxi driver stopped near a petrol station and asked them to leave the vehicle. Soon the commotion was seen by the public and all hurried to help.

The Dubai Police General HQ confiscated nearly 25,5600 thousand counterfeit fire prevention products worth AED2.5 million, during an anti-counterfeit campaign of the Department of Combating Economic Crimes of the General Department of Criminal investigations at the Dubai Police.

The campaign was carried out in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories, UL, the Middle East, a technology security company, and Ten Intelligence, an anti-counterfeit operation.

Brigadier Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, director of the General Department of Criminal Investigations, said that the department, acting on a tip-off, raided two storehouses in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area in Dubai and seized knock-off fire prevention products, including many devices and accessories.

"Counterfeit products are harmful to consumers, threatening their safety since these fake products do not meet the standards of safety and security. They also cause damages to the country's economy and the original owners of the trademark," Al-Jallaf added.

Hamid Sayd, Vice-President and General Manager of UL, Middle East Region, warned against the disastrous consequences of counterfeiting products used for maintaining safety, and extended his appreciation to the department at the Dubai Police for their hard work.

The Sharjah Police have received 32 calls that gave out misleading and false information on its emergency number 999 in three months. The calls made from August to October ranged from reports about domestic violence and vandalism to criminal threats and sexual abuse.

A man also raised a false alarm about a fire, grossly inconveniencing the police and their resources.

Amongst those calls, one Asian man called the Sharjah Police warning them that a bomb had been planted at a popular commercial outlet. The police swung into action and carried out necessary measures to deal with the situation. Later, it was found that it was a hoax call. The police managed to identify the caller thanks to surveillance cameras. The man was arrested and referred to the court.

These calls can leave the authorities confused and render their efforts futile, as they waste their time in investigating crimes that have not occurred.

A top officer said that the police operations room and departments concerned follow all procedures while dealing with such calls, even if, sometimes, their instincts tell them they are made up.

False callers can be jailed

False callers can recieve up to six months in jail and fine for reporting incidents or dangers that do not exist or for a crime the caller knows was not committed

Any person who falsely notifies the judicial authority or the administrative authorities about someone else can be jailed

It is an offence to fabricate material evidence that a person has committed a crime
