The suspect is alleged to have stolen money to the tune of Rs.30 million, from the Hatton National Bank and the Commercial Bank, and had used it to fund terrorist activities.

The CID identified the suspect, who carried the ‘Tiger’ flag during the cricket match, after comparing the visuals recorded by the CCTV cameras fixed in the ATM cubicles

The CID has filed another application, to suspend the suspect’s bank account held in a private bank in Kotahena, Colombo, under the 2006 Money Laundering Act.

The CID further informed that in this connection, two other suspects had been taken into the custody, identified as Ananda Ruban Kaladeepam from Dharmapuram and Balasubramaniam Udayan from Kotahena.

The CID’s request to further hold in custody the first and second suspects through a Detention Order was allowed by the Magistrate.
