Beijing Olympics gold medalist Abhinav Bindra and Munich World Championships bronze medallist Gagan Narang opened hosts India’s shooting campaign with a gold in the men’s 10m air rifle pairs on Tuesday.

Anisa Syyed and Rahee Sarnobat clinched a second gold for India in the Women’s 25m Pistol Pairs event.
Australia’s Lalita Yauhleuskaya and Linda Ryan won the silver, scoring a total of 1146 points while England bagged the bronze with Julia Lyndall and Gorgs Geikie shooting a total of 1122 points.
Syyed and Sarnobat scored a toal of 1156 points which is a new Games record bettering the previous games record of 1150 set by Australia in Manchester in 2002.
Bindra and Narang scored a total of 1193 points and set a new games record, bettering their previous score of 1189 in Melbourne.
It was the star duo’s second gold in the 10m air rifle event in the Commonwealth games. They won the gold in Melbourne four years ago.
England’s James Huckle and Kenny Parr won the silver with a total of 1174 points. Bangaladesh missed the silver by a point and settled for a bronze with Mohammed Asif Hossain Khan and Abdullah Hel Baki scoring a total of 1173-78 points.
Bindra scored a total of 595 (100, 98, 99, 100, 99, 99) while Narang was two points short of his own world record of 600 scoring 598 (99, 100, 100, 99, 100, 100) points.
However this was one point better than his bronze medal winning score of 697 in August’s World Championships in Munich.
With this win, Bindra - India’s lone Olympic Gold medalist - completed a golden hat-trick in the event in the Commonwealth Games.
He claimed his first pair’s gold in Manchester 2002 partnering Sameer Ambekar and then repeated the feat in the company of Narang in the Melbourne Games.
