A district cooling plant – considered a cheaper and more environmentally-friendly form of delivering air-conditioning – was unveiled yesterday at the Water, Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2008) in Dubai. The new facility, which will be completed in June next year, will provide residential buildings in Al Quoz with 35,000 tonnes of cooling. The integrated residential community developed by master developer Dubai Properties covers 707,887 square metres of office space, warehouses, plus central kitchen, laundry and sports facilities. A scale model of the Al Quoz cooling plant is being showcased at Wetex 2008, which runs until Saturday, an important regional resource platform for national and international companies. Speaking at the three-day exhibition, Ahmed bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, praised the move as an important step in the company's continued commitment to supply state-of-the-art cooling services. Bin Shafar said: "Empower is committed to serve Dubai with energy-efficient solution. The move is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to use energy-efficient technologies.
