Gang attacks pedestrians, steals phones

Four Pakistanis have been accused of forming a gang, who attacked pedestrians and robbed their mobile phones, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

JN (27), farmer, MB (27), carpenter, MD (24), technician, MH (28), sales representative, have also been charged for consuming alcohol.

In one of the several thefts committed by the gang, SB, was their victim.

SB fell prey on January 25 while he was walking in the street. The four men attacked him, beating him up with stick and stole his Samsung Note 3.

The victim immediately lodged a complaint to Dubai police.

Medical examination showed that the victim sustained head injury, but did not suffer long term disability.

Police had already received a couple of similar complaints by pedestrians and was working on the case.

While investigating the theft, police reached MD, who was a technician and arrested him.

Police confiscated a mobile phone from him that belonged to one of the victims.

The technician admitted to committing a number of such crimes and revealed the names of his accomplices.

Police arrested the farmer, JM and confiscated from him Samsung Note 3 which belong to SB.

Later, police arrested the carpenter MB and the sales representative MH.

All the accused were arrested in Al Rifaa area.

The three accused, MB, MH and JM, admitted to the thefts. They told police that the technician MD was the mastermind who planned all the thefts and attacked pedestrians with wooden stick.

The accused are now being prosecuted for another theft case.

The court will reconvene on July 21 for SB's case.
