Lawyer's staff assaults client's wife
A lawyer's representative has been accused of assaulting client's wife, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
When MR was detained on a bounced cheque case he contacted an Egyptian lawyer for the bail process.
The lawyer arranged his representative (WH) to meet the wife of MR to finish the procedures.
"I received a call from WH who was the lawyer's representative,” testified the housewife, LW, Algerian.
WH came to their house and picked her up and children to meet the husband.
WH started calling the wife regularly and flattering her. The wife objected to such behaviour.
However, the lawyer's representative used to put presents and flowers at her door step and leave.
"He also left presents for the kids," testified LW.
He told the 32-year-old to move on in his life as her husband had number of cases against him and his imprisonment would be for a long period.
"I destroyed by sim card to get rid of him but then he started calling me on our landline."
Changing phone number did not help as he kept stalking her.
"I threatened to lodge a police complaint and tell my husband about the harassment, but that did not deter him and he challenged me to do so," she said.
When the husband was released from jail, she did not confide in him as she didn't want to cause any trouble.
One day when her husband was away, the representative came to visit her.
She opened the door and was shocked to see the accused. He forced himself in and tried to sexually assault her.
While he was forcing himself on her, she cut her hand with the door key she was holding that had a knife hanger.
The accused got scared when he saw blood and ran away from the flat, in the process his spectacle fell on the ground.
The victim needed three stitches for the wound but did not tell her husband when he returned home.
When he asked her about the wound, she told her it was an accident.
The accused soon resumed harassing her for a month long after the incident.
She decided to lodge a complaint against him with the police who informed her husband.
She supplied the police with the spectacle that fell when he attacked her.
Police arrested the 39-year-old Egyptian.
The building's watchman testified that he saw the accused at around 11.30 running out of the building and looking scared.
The court will reconvene on July 11.
