1,057 held at Abu Dhabi airport in 2013

Abu Dhabi authorities arrested 1,057 passengers in 2013 wanted in various court cases, mostly issuing dud cheques, according to airport officials.

Pakistanis topped the list of defendants as 180 of them were nabbed at the airport as they tried to leave the UAE, said Mohammed Fadel Al Shamsi, director of investigation at the airport police.

“Most of those arrested at the airport last year were involved in dud cheque cases…we seize those wanted through direct contact with the interior ministry or through circulars issued by the police,” he said.
