10 years jail for transit passenger carrying drugs

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced BD, a 43-year-old Turkish transit passenger, to ten years in jail for transporting drugs. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh50,000.

Sergeant Adel Ali testified that at around 10.30pm on May 3 while was on duty in the transit hall of Dubai Airport’s Terminal 3, he was informed by Corporal Nasim Mohammed about a suspected passenger.

The passenger was arriving travelling from Brazil to Syria via Dubai.

Checking his two luggage bags, which were abnormally thick, police found 12 packets wrapped in plastic that contained a total of 7.133kg of cocaine.
