1kg heroin posted in a parcel through Dubai

Customs inspectors at Dubai Cargo Village have foiled an attempt to smuggle 1.1kg of heroin hidden inside secret pockets of a handbag shipped in a postal parcel from an Asian country to a western country through Dubai.

Ahmed bin Lahj, director of air customs centres at Dubai Customs, said the parcel contained clothes and a bag containing "personal effects and documents" as described in the customs declaration.

Customs inspectors suspected the bag and ordered manual inspection which resulted in discovery  of a white-coloured substance with the properties of drugs.

The dog unit and mobile laboratory at Dubai Customs, which has modern drugs scanners, were called in. The result was positive - the substance was heroin.
