An Abu Dhabi court of appeals sentenced two local football players to suspended three months jail term after they were found guilty of publishing a film on social networks offending a sport personality.
The court acquitted their friend, a website holder, of charges of using the site to abuse others and ordered the immediate removal of the film.
The judge at Wednesday’s hearings upheld previous verdicts by a court of first instance against the two players after finding them guilty of the charges which included using the social media for insult and using obscene words.
The film, which was posted last year, went viral on social networks and triggered angry reactions from viewers on the grounds it violated social and ethical values in the UAE.
