A 29-year-old Bangladeshi salesman, MS, who sought to sponsor his family by submitting forged lease registration certificate was sentenced to three months in jail.

On March 3, MS approached the Dubai Residency and Foreign Affairs Department (DNRD) along with a visa application for his wife. He enclosed the application with a lease registration certificate as per the rules.

An employee at the visa counter checked the certificate via ‘Ejari’ system and found out that it was forged by including the name of the applicant in it after hiding the name of the original tenant who had actually leased the flat.

Confronting him with that, MS admitted he had submitted forged document and said that he had obtained the photocopy by paying Dh1,200. He also accepted in front of the employee that he had not rented or lived at the address mentioned on the certificate.

The accused pleaded not guilty when he first appeared before the court.
