4 on trial for holding fake Indian currency

Four Pakistani allegedly possessed for promotional purpose fake Indian currency of 4.72 million rupees and had tried to exchange the amount into UAE dirhams, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A tip off was received by police about Pakistanis who possessed fake Indian rupees 4,727,000 and were looking for a money changer to exchange it into UAE dirhams.

The informer, the exchange company owner, agreed to the request of the police to buy the amount to help arrest the accused red handed.

MA, 42, SN, 33, businessman, and MF, 49, driver, visited the informer in his officeand brought the amount in a car that MF was driving.

The three accused confessed to possessing fake Indian rupees which they claimed that they had received from AR, 30, sales executive.

Police arrested AR in a hotel in Dubai.

Criminal Evidences reported that the notes were accurately and neatly faked in such a way that it was difficult for an ordinary person to discover.

Both MA and SN admitted to possessing the notes but denied knowing that they were counterfeit. However, the driver MF and the sales representative AR denied before the court any link to the fake notes.

The court will reconvene on October 1.
