Two Syrians allegedly imported 392,768 amphetamine weighing 65.2kg for sale and stored it in a warehouse in Al Quoz area, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Dubai Police was tipped off about MN, 24, driver, and KM, 32, keeping amphetamine in a store in Al Quoz area and seeking to export it from the UAE.

After ensuring the authenticity of the information, the police arrested the two on April 21, 2015.

Searching them, police found a collection of keys with MN. When questioned about the drugs, the two admitted possessing them.

They said that they have received a consignment of ovens in which drug tablets were cocealed.

“MN admitted that he had got the consignment released from Jebel Ali Port through a cargo clearing company. He admitted that all invoices and documents were the name of KM and clearance was done in his name,” testified Lieutenant Abdullah Hussain.

The two claimed that they had received the consignment as per instructions of a person called ‘Bilal’ who is in jail in Kuwait.

MN admitted handing over a quantity of drugs a day before his arrest on the instructions of ‘Bilal’.

“The remaining quantity is in a store in Al Quoz,” he said. MN admitted to renting the store.

MN was promised by ‘Bilal’ and his brother KM money for renting the store and handing over drugs to people he did not know.

KM admitted that he and the driver imported the ovens that were stuffed with drug tablets and emptied them in a rented store in Al Quoz.

“My brother ‘Bilal’, who was jailed in Kuwait in a drug case, had asked me to do that. This was the second time that we imported drugs in this way,” KM told the officer.

The two guided police officers to the store where opened ovens were found and a large number of drug tablets were confiscated.

Police also arrested Hadi, an Emirati resident of Al Ain, who received some of the drug tablets.

Police confiscated from Hadi eight tablets that were of the same kind that were found in the store.

The court will reconvene on April 25.
