Dubai Police has foiled an attempt to smuggle into the UAE as many as 6.5 million narcotic pills with a market value of about Dh65 million.
Police said the Captagon tablets were found concealed between the double walls of metal pipes.
Major General Khamis Mattar Almazina said at a news conference that two Arabs working in the vegetable market and a Pakistani truck driver have been arrested.
Maj. Gen. Almazina said the seized drugs were packed in a shipment which arrived at Jebel Ali Port from an Asian country. The shipment was unloaded and stored in a warehouse in Fujeirah and later brought to Dubai again for transporting it to another Gulf country. The Captagon tablets were found in a truck which had been rented for Dh300 a day in Ras Al Khor Industrial Area. Two of the three people arrested were looking for a man to transport the narcotic pills to a GCC state.
Police said the first suspect was arrested near Dragon Mart while the second suspect was arrested from his office in the fruit and vegetable market.
