Sharjah Police has arrested a seven-member gang of cyber criminals who specialized in theft of credit card data.

Police began investigations after receiving a complaint from a person who received a message from his bank, informing him about an online payment which he had not made.

Police first arrested one man who had stolen and used the complainant’s credit card information. He confessed to the involvement of seven other people, all Pakistanis, in their fraudulent operations.

The arrested man also confessed that an eighth member of the gang lived outside the UAE. This person processed stolen credit card data and send it to members of the gang in the UAE.

The gang admitted that they had fake accounts with banks, which were used to access clients' accounts and steal their data.

The arrested people have been transferred to the public prosecution to take legal action against them.

Colonel Ibrahim Misbah, Director of Criminal Investigation of Sharjah Police, said the gang was cheating people by claiming they could get their debts reduced by half. The gang used to pay off their debts with their victims’ own money stolen with the help of credit card data. He appealed to the public not to deal with this kind of fraudsters and report them to the police as soon as possible.
