A thief went into a mobile phone shop in Dubai, picked some of the most expensive handsets and told the owner to send a worker with him to get the rest of the money from his apartment as he did not have enough.

At the entrance of the building, he told the worker to wait for him but he never returned and it turned out later that the building has a second entrance. Encouraged by its success, the thief managed to steal nearly 60 costly mobile handsets from 15 different shops, using the same trick before he was nabbed.

“He was selecting buildings with two entrances so he can go in and leave the building from the second entrance,” said colonel Ahmed bin Glaita, director of the anti-crime section at the Dubai criminal investigation department.

“He succeeded in duping 15 shops and stealing nearly 60 expensive mobile handsets…we later received a report that the suspect was in Riqqa street…when he  was caught, we found many mobile phones with him.”

Quoted by 'Al Bayan' newspaper, Glaita said all stolen mobiles were retrieved from the thief’s house and returned to their owners.

“We urge dealers not to fully trust customers unless they know them very well….. …those who claim they will pay within minutes could turn out to be thieves later,” he said.
