Abandoned car lifters gang busted in Dubai
Dubai Police arrested a gang of three men accused of stealing abandoned cars and smuggling them abroad. They allegedly stole 79 such cars.
One of the accused is a government official, reported 'Al Khaleej' newspaper, who issued impounding certificates and helped the duo identify abandoned cars.
Police was alerted by a woman who suspected her husband's car was been checked by two strangers. When she saw them trying to open the car that was parked near her residence, she approached them and enquired why they were tampering with the car. To which, the suspects replied: "We are from the police department and have come to impound the car."
She immediately called the police, who arrived within minutes and arrested the duo. Interrogations revealed that the two were involved in stealing several other abandoned cars.
While the government official helped in indentifying abandoned cars and issuing impounding certificates, the other two were responsible for making deplicate keys and transporting the vehicles to another emirate. They sold spare parts of some vehicles and smuggled others out of the country.
Investigations are still on.
