A Gulf Arab employee at the Abu Dhabi Traffic Police is facing charges of forging tickets issued by the police to drivers by entering wrong data in the system to which he has access, newspapers reported on Wednesday.

The unnamed employee denied the charges in court and said he confessed under pressure during interrogation, they said.

During court hearings on Tuesday, the prosecutor accused the defendant of entering the traffic police system to change fines to other drivers who have not committed such an offence. He also was accused of changing the fine to less serious one and illegally obtaining the password to the system.

His lawyer told court the defendant confessed to the crime under pressure and that other employees at the police department have access to that system.

Newspapers said the judge set October 7 for a sentence.
