A Nigerian visitor transiting through Dubai was caught with 146 capsules containing more than 3.2Kgs of cocaine, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
An Anti-Narcotics officer, Omar Salem, suspected transit passenger who looked scared and confused and dragging a brown luggage handbag behind him.
"I stopped him and asked him about his designations. He was shivering and sweating when he responded and said he came from Sao Paulo (Brazil) and heading to Lagos in Nigeria. After affirming that the handbag was his, the passenger was taken for further security checks," said the officer.
The officer found two socks that were stuffed with capsules. The passenger admitted that the capsules contained cocaine.
The passenger IS, 34, admitted that he had swallowed 89 capsules but as he could not swallow more, he hid them in the socks.
The accused admitted to agreeing to transport the drugs from Brazil to Nigeria via Dubai against BRL6,000 (Dh7015.63).
The court will give its sentence on July 29.
