Al Ain exorcist accused of killing woman
An Arab Raqi (healer by the Koran) is facing charges of killing a woman in the eastern oasis town of Al Ain by beating her to death in a bid to expel jinn (ghosts) out of her body, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
A criminal court in Al Ain was told that the Raqi and two accomplices—the victim’s brother and female friend—had overpowered the patient who was believed to have suffered from health problems with the aim of performing an act of exorcism on her.
Medical examination showed that the woman, also Arab, died of damaged lungs, kidneys and heart while she also had bruises on her head.
“The court was told that the woman died as a result of beating by the Raqi and his two accomplices…the court is trying to establish if deliberate criminal act is involved in the case,” the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej said.
