A teenaged Emirati boy without driving licence travelling at high speed knocked over a 53-year-old Asian man in Ras Al-Khaimah and killed him on the spot before fleeing the scene in the second such incident in the UAE in less than a week.

The 17-year-old boy was driving fast near Ibrahim Abdullah Hospital when the man emerged on the road trying to cross over to the other side.

“The driver was caught off guard and could not avoid hitting that man because he was driving at a very high speed……he even did not try to use the car brakes,” said Colonel Abdullah Minkhes, director the traffic and patrols department in Ras Al Khaimah.

“The driver committed yet another mistake when he did not stop to check the victim…he just fled the scene so no one will take his car number…he just left his victim in a critical condition, leading to his death in a few minutes.”

Quoted by Emirat Alyoum daily, police said the driver, identified as MA, was arrested within two hours after the accident, adding that he does not have a driving licence and that he had been referred to the prosecution.

It was the second deadly accident caused by a speeding teen ager without driving licence in the UAE in less than a week. Two Indian men were ripped apart by a 16-year-old boy racing at 200 km per hour in Dubai on Friday.
