Arab uses Instagram to swindle Dh15,000

An Arab man resorted to the social network Instagram to swindle Dh15,000 from an Emirati by luring him into paying the sum for five gold-plated mobile phones, which he did not deliver, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The Emirati told police in Ras Al Khaimah that he remitted the sum to the man’s account in return for the five iPhone handsets after he saw their picture on Instagram.

He said that after he paid the money, the Arab man turned his mobile off and did not reply to his repeated messages on the service.

“Police succeeded in identifying the Arab man and locating his whereabouts. They arrested him and he was charged,” 'Al Khaleej' daily said, adding that he would stand trial on October 19.
