One of six Syrians accused of possessing about 90,000 amphetamine tablets bit the thumb of a policeman while resisting his arrest, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Following a tip off about six Syrians who were to receive a large quantity of narcotic tablets, police observed them and learnt that the drugs were to be collected by them from a car parked in a petrol station at Nad Al Hamar area on May 1.

Police observed the location and spotted the car. Checking it from outside, a member of the squad saw that two large bags were placed on the front seat of the vehicle.

The squad continued observing the car and at around 7pm, the accused started coming one after another to the scene.  Each one checked the car and looked into it using their mobile phone flash before leaving the place.

Finally, one of the accused AA, 28, electrician, took the car’s key which was hidden on top of the front wheel at the driver’s side while another man waited for him in a cafeteria at the station.

AA opened the car’s door and drove it while the rest headed to their Lexus car that they came in.

After they began moving from the fuel station, the police squad stopped the two cars.

When policemen approached the car which contained the drugs, AA hit a policeman’s hand with something in his hand and bit his thumb while resisting arrest.

Police also confiscated seven other large sacks in a car parked in the French Cluster in International City.

AA, who guided police to that car, admitted that he collected captagon pills in the same way he collected amphetamine tablets.

The six, aged between 28 and 35, are all accused of possessing drugs for promotional purpose.

AA alone is accused of assaulting a policeman on duty.

Another accused, ST, 35, driver is accused of taking drugs.

The court will reconvene on November 16.
