A Pakistani driver who wanted to sleep while on duty allegedly picked up a fight with his colleague who asked him to complete his duties first. The initial argument turned into fist fight leaving the latter with a broken finger, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.

FHK, 29, is accused of assaulting Omaruddin Sahebuddin and causing him five per cent permanent disability.

On May 11, the 53-year-old driver was on night duty. At 2.30am he was asked to load some consignments into a truck and return for more as the victim had other jobs to do. But on not seeing him for a long time, he went out to check on him. FHK was inside the vehicle half asleep.

Testifying in court, Sahebuddin said: "I asked FHK to get up to load the vehicle so that I can transport the same. He told me that he will not do so  because he wanted to sleep. I told him that I came back specifically to help him and I am tired too. Suddenly he rushed towards me and dragged me and pushed me to the ground…then twisted my hand. I suffered a fracture and I was rushed to hospital,” Omaruddin testified.

Forensic reported supported the claim of five per cent permanent disability to Sahebuddin's ring finger.

FHK admitted to assaulting Sahebuddin.

The court adjourned for verdict until October 18.
