A wife and her husband’s friend are accused of assaulting the man and causing his death during a drinking session, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AB died because of internal bleeding following the alleged assault.

The wife, SS, 37, called a friend who is a taxi driver, to rush her husband to the hospital.

He excused himself, saying he is busy and that he will come later.

SS again called the driver and asked him to rush, as her husband’s condition was very bad.

“I came to AB’s house in Hor Al Anz and knocked at the door. His wife opened the door and guided me to her husband who was lying on the floor in the bedroom. I checked him and found out that he was not breathing and there was no pulse, so I asked her to call for an ambulance to rush him to the hospital. The ambulance arrived and then the police, who asked me to leave after announcing him dead,” said the driver.

Medical staff told police that the man had died about an hour ago as his body was stiff and his lips bluish.

Police suspected criminal intention behind the man’s death as there were scratches and bruises on his face and other areas of the body.

The wife initially did not mention about a friend with whom her husband was drinking.

She told the police that he fell after consuming alcohol and passed urine on himself before sleeping on the floor which he used to do.

“I got worried about him when I noticed his legs were cold and his lips bluish,” she said.

However, Forensic reported that the cause of death was internal bleeding due to hand assault or kick in his abdominal area.

It also reported that the victim and another or others had a fight because his underwear was torn in some places.

When confronted, the wife admitted that her husband’s friend AW came to their house at around 6pm and the two consumed alcohol until 10.30pm while she was preparing dinner for them.

“AW got out of the hall to go to the toilet, and then my husband got behind him and knocked at the door. AW opened the bathroom’s door and tried to calm my husband down. The two went back to the hall and closed the door. I went up to the bedroom and returned after about an hour to see my husband on the floor,” she told the police.

Asking her if the two fought, she said that her husband usually raged when he got drunk.

Police arrested AW in Sharjah.

AW admitted that he went to his friend’s house on his request to consume alcohol.

“While we were drinking, he asked me to lend him money to bring his brother to the UAE. He ranged in anger and I went to the toilet. I heard a knock at the door and when I got out,  I saw my friend trying to jump from the window, so I prevented him from doing that and calmed him down. I asked his wife for taking shower. After I finished, I left the house,” he told the police.

The prosecution accused the wife and the friend of assaulting the deceased and causing his death.

In court, the two denied assaulting the victim and the wife told the jury that he is her husband and she has five children from him. “I could never assault him,” he said.

The man admitted only to the charge of consuming alcohol.

The court will reconvene on March 22.
