'Blue laser' for Dh950 guides seller to jail

Sharjah Police arrested a Yemini national for selling equipment that emits a dangerous blue laser as well as using BlackBerry to promote his illegal activity.

He sold the device for Dh950 per piece and also lured customers by offering them free home delivery through courier services.

The equipment has serious effects on air traffic and navigation. It is also hazardous to the eye and is likely to cause blindness, say experts who add that human exposure may cause burns as well.

Sharjah Police acted on a tip-off received about a person selling dangerous device using BlackBerry services.

Upon raiding his home, police confiscated 10 devices. Five of them were sold and waiting dispatch.

The suspect confessed to possessing prohibited devices and promoting them.

His activity was a means to conceal his identity to escape legal accountability, according to police officials.
