The arrest of an Indian expatriate who was involved in a road accident and ran away from the rented car he was loading with alcohol drinks, lead to the discovery that the passport, driving licence and tourist visa he used to rent the car were forged.

Corporal Saeed Saleh reported a traffic accident in October 2012 in Al Rifaa area. The driver of a Nissan Tiida who hit another car ran away from the scene apparently because it was loaded with 24 bottles of alcohol. Tracing the car we found out that it belonged to a rent-a-car company,” said the policeman.

The car rental company’s employee told police that on August 14, 2012, a man had rented the car for five months, paying Dh1,000 in advance.

“The client handed over his passport and we got copies of his international driver’s licence issued in India in addition to his tourist visa,” NM told investigators.

Police found out that the passport was forged. The photo of the original holder had been replaced with another one and the entry stamp of Dubai Airport was also forged. The tourist visa and the eye scan stamp were also found to be forged.

Police found finger prints on the car and found out that some of them belonged to 33-year-old NB.

After arresting him, NB admitted that he had agreed with a compatriot called Hussain to trade in alcohol by using a rented car.

“Hussain managed to forge all documents needed to rent a car including a passport, driver’s licence and tourist visa. He supplied me with the documents which I submitted to the rent-a car-company and signed on the renting contract,” admitted the accused.

NB is being prosecuted for forging and using forged official and unofficial documents and possessing alcohol for selling.

The Court will give its verdict on December 30.
