Boyfriend snatching: Dubai maid stabs cleaner

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced a Nepali housemaid to seven years in prison followed by deportation for attempting to kill a Sri Lankan woman in the stairwell of their building because of jealousy over a boyfriend.

According to the records, DM, 28, accompanied by another woman, took a knife and hid it under her clothes and went down the building in the Silicon Oasis, waiting for the victim to return home.

“On April 2, I returned to the building in which I lived at around 5.30pm,” said the 32-year old victim identified as NS, cleaner.

In front of the building, a compatriot maid who worked for a family in the same building, approached the victim and asked her for her mobile phone. “When I refused to give it to her, she sprayed pepper powder at my eyes, pulled me by my hair and dragged me into the building’s lift while cupping my mouth with her hand.

“They pressed the eighth floor button and started beating me and biting my hands. The lift’s door opened. The two attackers pulled me into the stairwell where DM pulled out a big knife from under her dress and started stabbing me in my head, belly, arm and chest. I shouted and screamed for help but nobody came to help me. I pushed the two women away from me with all my force and ran towards the seventh floor. I knocked at a door but nobody opened. I rushed to my flat and called my sponsor and told him about the attack before I fell unconscious,” the victim told investigators.

Policeman Taher Mohammed was rushed to the scene of the crime and he reported seeing blood stains in the seventh floor corridor and in front of the victim’s flat. The victim returned to consciousness and told police about the identity of the attackers who were her neighbours. Police knocked at the door of one of the attackers.

“DM opened the door while her dress was stained with blood. She admitted stabbing the victim as the latter had snatched her Pakistani boyfriend from her,” testified the policeman.

Police also arrested the other woman identified as ‘N’ who worked as a maid for a family living on the fifth floor. “At the time of her arrest, she was on the ground floor of the building with her employer’s daughter,” testified the policeman.

The records said that the two accused were handed over to the Women Police and also mentioned that ‘N’, DM’s partner in crime, is at large without mentioning how she ran away.

Forensic reported that the victim’s stabs were at vital places in the body.DM was prosecuted for premeditated murder attempt.
